Roland GarrosHamou's behaviour unwarrented
Eurosport journalist: I would have slapped him if we hadn't been on air
During a live interview, tennis player Maxime Hamou has been kicked out of Roland Garros for groping Eurosport reporter Maly Thomas on air.
Both the player and journalist have responded to the incident.
"I would have slapped him if we hadn't been on air," said Thomas, insisting the cameras held back a harsher response.
Hamou, in turn, issued a public apology.
"After the airing of Avantage Leconte programme, I'd like to issue a sincere apology if she was hurt or affected by my attitude during the interview. I'd been on the end of a magnificent week at Roland Garros in which I've enjoyed big emotions as a tennis player, and I let all of that enthusiasm manifest itself in a clumsy way towards Maly, who I know and respect. None of the things that have been written about me were my intention. I'm at Maly's disposition to issue an apology in person if she wishes. I learn everyday from my mistakes to become a better tennis player and a better person," Hamou wrote.
