Harry Redknapp believes Tottenham and England midfielder Dele Alli is good enough to play for any club in the world, but has urged the youngster to stay at White Hart Lane.
Alli has gone from strength to strength since joining Spurs from lowly MK Dons in 2015, emerging as one of the brightest young talents in the Premier League and perhaps the whole of Europe.
The 20-year-old scored one of his best goals for Spurs in Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing of Watford, and has now netted 20 goals in all competitions this term.
He has been linked with some of the world’s top clubs in recent months, with German giants Bayern Munich apparently holding a strong interest in the Three Lions youngster.
But the future looks bright at Tottenham, with a burgeoning young side currently second in the Premier League table, and Redknapp believes Alli can achieve great things if he stays at the club.
Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the former Spurs boss said: “Dele Alli could play for anyone – he’s that good. He’s an amazing talent.
“But Tottenham are a big club! Everything is in place there - the training ground is fantastic, they’ve got a new stadium is coming, they’re probably going to finish second this year and they have a lot of young players who can only get better.
“The future looks fantastic for Tottenham and you’d like to see Alli stay there, with Harry Kane and some of the other youngster players.
“Hopefully they can push on from there and look to win the title, which would be fantastic for them.”
Redknapp also recalled how one of his former coaches at Queens Park Rangers realised Alli’s talent long before he sealed a move to White Hart Lane, and that many top clubs had a chance to sign him before Tottenham eventually snapped him up.
He added: “It’s just amazing that he was playing at MK Dons only two seasons ago.
“Kevin Hitchcock, who was my goalkeeper coach at QPR, his boy was on loan there so he used to watch them quite regularly. He used to come back and say to me, ‘this kid is unbelievable’. We [QPR] were never going to sign him - he was always going to go to a big club, but nobody actually took the plunge until Tottenham came in, and what a player they’ve signed!
“You talk about Lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Gascoigne - I think he’ll be up with them and he’s still only 20 - what a talent!”
